our story
Founded in 2017, SAWON has been part of pioneers who seek and implement change in our communities. We are committed to fostering family values in our communities, supporting ethical leadership, demonstrating women leaders as role models for the youth and other women, recognising excellent leadership, and promoting togetherness.

Education, community safety, protection of women, children and people living with disability, food security and shelter are human rights should not be negotiated.

SAWON Leadership Academy

The leadership academy's goal is to teach youth leadership skills at the grassroots level so that they can reach their full potential. . This helps them to avoid falling into the trap of societal evils and a lack of vision.

The Nokuthula Legacy

Founded by our CEO, Ms. Lucky Mthembu, The Nokuthula Legacy, a core driver of SAWON GBV initiative, focusses on guaranteeing the detection and resolution of gender-based violence from its underlying cause to its actual manifestation by assisting perpetrators in dealing with their demons and past traumas.

Nokuthula means "Mother of Peace" and seeks to be a refuge ready to bring bountiful peace to women and children seeking aid and liberation from the trauma caused by their violent conditions. It also intends to advocate for peace by rehabilitating males and empowering boys so that they do not develop personality disorders that lead to them becoming abusive adults as a result of trauma, cultural conditioning, and

unresolved concerns

Africa is faced with many socio-economical challenged that bring about a vast of interlinked social problems. At the core of all of these the vulnerable groups majority being women and children suffers more. Our drive is offer a holistic way in approaching these problems. Our focus is on strategies that seek to root out the scourge of GBV by understanding the root course of GBV.

Our research points us a variety of factors with mostly the key factor being most vulnerable groups have no access to basic needs which often leave them at the mercy of their abusers. The empowerment of women starting from a very early age is important. The primary goal is to preserve women and children from violent situations (especially domestic abuse) by serving as a mechanism for restoring their sense of calm through independence and empowerment through support. Furthermore, it seeks to be a one-stop shop for rape victims, assisting both abuse victims and rape victims in their journey to liberation through therapy, life coaching, and empowerment.

We are Helping Hands
Help us to change lives. SAWON's vision 2044 is where our society will be united in fighting our socio-economic challenges thus eradicating poverty, GBV, and children growing in a safer environment.
